BORING MACHINE

What is Boring Machines?

Let’s try to understand the origin and meaning of the term Borverk. This term is not included in the dictionary of Turkish Language Association. This, like other technical terms, was borrowed from foreign languages and used by technical people in the industry. The verb “bore” means “to make a hole” in English, while “bohren” in German means “to make a hole”. The term “baralamak”, derived from the verb “bore” in English, and the term “borverk”, derived from the term “bohr werk” in German, began to be used in Turkish.

Boring process is the process of enlarging a pre-drilled or fabricated hole to precise tolerances with a single point cutting tool or special multiple busbar tools. CNC boring machines are very useful due to their ability to perform this precise operation.

The first boring machine was designed in 1775 by British industrialist John Wilkinson, one of the pioneers of the industrial revolution. He developed this machine to precisely machine cast cannon barrels and the cylinders of James Watt’s steam engines. This borverk machine designed by Wilkinson is considered the world’s first truly machine tool. Therefore, borverk machines can also be considered as the ancestor of machine tools.

What are the Features of boring machines?

CNC boring machines are machine tools that can perform versatile operations such as milling, drilling, tapping, reaming, threading, turning, 2D/3D form processing as well as precision boring operations. Thanks to these features, they are distinguished from other machine tools by their ability to perform multiple operations in one setting.

CNC boring machines can be designed in horizontal or vertical forms, but the most known and used types are horizontal ones. Horizontal type CNC boring machines occupy a special position in the metalworking industry. The strong and robust construction, high precision and versatile processing capabilities of these machines offer unmatched performance in the industry.
